This custom designed & fabricated a ceramic extrusion 3-D printer stands nearly 9 ft tall with a clay capacity of 80 lbs. Unlike common printers, “Tournette” uses polar coordinates to determine positioning, meaning the circular base rotates to define the X & Y positioning. The purpose of the rotating base was to further mimic traditional ceramic practices such as pottery wheels while also exploiting the materials capability of uniform drying to build larger and stronger pieces.
